As a Man Thinketh is a pioneering self-help book by James Allen, a philosophical writer of British nationality known for his inspirational books and poetry. This is Allen's third book and was first published in 1903. The book is divided into seven small chapters. He described the book as "A book that will help you to help yourself", "A pocket companion for thoughtful people", and "A book on the power and right application of thought."

The aphorism, "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he," forms the basis of the title of this book. Allen says a man is literally what he thinks, his character, his personality is made out of his thoughts. He talks about the thought process of our mind. He reveals the laws of thought and how the thought-forces and mind elements operate in the shaping of his character, circumstances, and destiny. Our mind is the master power that moulds and make us. He also compared man's mind to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth.

This tiny but powerful book is a one sitting read. Allen distilled the message concisely in just 50 pages. It is the foundational book of self development. Every single page of this book injects a powerful and deep lesson in our mind. The language may be a little difficult for some to take in, but it you will get the ultimate gist. While reading, I was touched by every single line and I took several pauses, tried to apply the same with my life. This book taught me a strong lesson to deal with life and control the mind.

The book will change your way of thinking and ultimately show the right path of life and instill the courage to live successfully and peacefully. For anyone who is seeking a self-development and understanding of thinking, this is a must read. It can be life a changing book for anyone. Must give it a read!
